Winter in Chamonix
CHAMONIX IN WINTER
There is a myriad of other winter activities to enjoy in Chamonix, too, that Éhvoé is happy to arrange for you. Choose from husky dog sledding, ski-joëring behind horses, ice skating, watching the local ice hockey team smash their way through the major mountain league, snow-shoe walks, ice climbing, tandem parapenting, speed-riding, ski touring, or even ski down La Vallée Blanche with a guide from l’Aiguille du Midi to La Mer de Glace.
Ski Areas In Chamonix
Skiing and snowboarding in Chamonix is second to none – it is high, snow sure and spectacular. The valley has 5 key ski areas, including the Aiguille du Midi cable cars which enable skiing on Mont-Blanc, although this is for experts only and you must be accompanied by a high mountain guide.
The winter season is 5 months long and you can ski and snowboard from the beginning of December to the end April every year.
The ski area most easily accessible from the centre of town via the Plan-Praz gondola. South facing and sunny, the Freeride World Tour is held here every January. The Liaison cable car links Brévent to Flégère, which is famed for accessing ski touring routes in the Aiguilles Rouges and has a cable car to the village of Les Praz.
Balme Tour Vallorcine
Further up valley from Argentière, sitting on the border with Switzerland is the charming ski area of Le Balme. It is accessible by gondola from the village of Le Tour, or by gondola from the village of Vallorcine on the other side of the mountain. Great pistes for families and plenty of powder for the off piste fanatics to play in.
Tailor-made winter experiences Éhvoé can arrange for you:
SKIDOO DINNER IN ITALY
Take an evening ride on a skidoo up to a remote mountain refuge above Courmayeur in Italy, where you’ll enjoy a candlelit dinner before taking the skidoo back down the piste.
SKI & SPA
For a change of terrain and pace, go skiing in Switzerland (just 45mins drive from Chamonix) or Italy (30mins through the Tunnel du Mont-Blanc) and finish the day by soaking in the waters of a thermal spa, either at Les Bains de Lavey, Valais, or Pre-St Didier, Vallee d’Aosta.
LUNCH & SPA
Indulge in the excellent retail therapy possible by shopping in downtown Chamonix (one of the few Alpine towns with a Chanel store), savour a gourmet lunch in a Michelin-starred restaurant and then unwind with a dip in a well-heated outdoor private swimming pool with spectacular views of Mont-Blanc.
